In Branford July 10, 2011, Andrew P. Amarante, beloved husband of the late Marie Scarpace Amarante of Branford.
Mr. Amarante was born in New Haven, October 8, 1926, a son of the late James J. and Theresa Santanelli Amarante. He served in the U. S. Navy in World War II. After the war, he attended the Culinary Institute of America in New Haven where he was a second year graduate in 1948. He started in the restaurant business in 1950 with Andy's Luncheonette in New Haven, moving in 1959 to San Remo's Restaurant. He purchased the Sea Cliff in 1962, and since then he has been the owner operator of Amarante's Sea Cliff.
He is a past president of the Culinary Institute of America's Alumni and a past president of the New Haven Civitan Club. He is a 3rd Degree member of the Russell Council Knights of Columbus in New Haven, and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus with the John Barry Assembly. September 30, 2007 was proclaimed to be "Andy Amarante Day" in the State of Connecticut.
He is survived by his six children, Teresa (Peter) Garceau of Guilford, Grace Hurley of Branford, Mary (Glenn) Brushett of Branford, Andrea (Dr. Alexander) Carrese of Shelton, Lisa (Richard) Standish of Clinton, and James A. (Gwenda) Amarante of Branford; his sister, Shirley Ardito of Naples, FL; 21 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a grandson David Burns, a sister, Grace Tortora and a brother James J. Amarante, Jr.
Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Thursday morning at 10:00 in St. Mary Church, Branford, and may call Wednesday from 3 – 8 PM at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford.
