Angela Louise Scaramella Carrano, beloved wife and mother, passed away on June 28 after a courageous struggle with cancer. She was born in New Haven on August 17, 1939, the daughter of Thomas and Evelyn Guida Scaramella. She was the wife of Mr. Frank A. Carrano for 53 years and the mother of Dr. Matthew T. Carrano (Diana) and Dr. Frank M. Carrano (Kathryn). She also leaves behind her brothers Dr. Albert Scaramella (Sharon), Dr. Thomas Scaramella (Jackie), and Mr. Robert Scaramella (Carol), numerous nieces and nephews who loved her, and her dog Zoey.
Angela graduated Southern Connecticut State University in 1961 and taught mathematics for over 30 years, first in North Branford and then at Guilford High School. She excelled at teaching Advanced Placement Calculus and took great pride in the fact that every one of her students achieved the highest possible ranking on the national test.
Angela was the heart and soul of her family and created a loving and comfortable home for them. She was an avid cook and baker, a highly skilled sewer and quilter, a voracious reader, and loved to play mahjongg with Margaret, Joan, Carmel, and Suzanne on Wednesday afternoons. She volunteered for the Friends of the Blackstone Memorial Library and served on the Mission Board of the Branford Congregational Church, of which she was a member for 50 years. Her greatest joy, however, was to gather her family at the holiday table. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the First Congregational Church of Branford. Burial will be private. Friends may call Friday from 4-7 P.M. at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St. Branford. As much as Angela loved flowers, her family requests that any contributions instead be made to either the Friends of the Blackstone Library, 758 Main St, Branford, CT 06405 or the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, 749 East Main St. Branford, CT 06405.
