Anthony "Tony" Anastasio, 91, of Branford, CT passed away peacefully on June 30 at home with his wife Eleanor and family by his side.
Tony leaves behind his loving wife, Eleanor; their four children, Nilda Gagliardi (Bob), of Branford, CT; Anthony Anastasio (Lizette) of Weston, FL; Dr. Geraldine Anastasio (husband David Finnie) of Charlotte, NC; Lesley Tamulevich (Kevin) of East Haven, CT; seven grandchildren, Robert and Dr. Cynthia Gagliardi, Vanessa and Preston Finnie, Michaela and Mitchell Anastasio, Dr. Mariel Cataldi (Adam); and two siblings, Caroline DiFabbio (and her late husband Vincent) of East Haven, CT and Christopher Anastasio (and wife Christine Edwards) of San Clemente, CA.
Tony was born on January 4, 1926, in New Haven, CT to Andrew and Anna Anastasio. He attended Boardman Trade School in New Haven, CT. In 1944 he enrolled in the U.S. Navy and went on to serve his country during WWII aboard the DE USS Pratt in the South Pacific. He often shared memories of his time in the service including spending Christmas Day at Bora-Bora in 1944 and surviving a typhoon. He went on to become an excellent craftsman, brick mason, and tile setter and was a member of the Bricklayers Union Local 1.
Tony married Eleanor Sansone on March 31, 1951. They were together for 66 years. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather and worked hard to provide for his children. Tony was especially proud of being able to support his children through all of their schooling and higher education. In his free time Tony loved sailing – a passion he passed down to his children and grandchildren – and was a member of the Branford Yacht Club for 30 years.
The family extends sincere gratitude to Dr. M. Rubenstein, Dr. J. Gerber, and all of the homecare aids, especially Fred Gyamfi for the excellent care they provided. We are forever thankful.
