In Branford September 10, 2008, Anthony J. "Tony Z" Zirles, beloved husband of 38 years to Michele Tommaso Zirles of 260 Twin lakes Rd., North Branford.
Devoted father of Kristen Caron and Lyndsie Zirles, of North Branford. He was especially devoted to his grandchildren, whom he considered his best friends, Alyssa Caron and David "DJ" Caron of North Branford. He was the brother of Eleanor Berzinskas of Clinton, and is also survived by his brother-in-law Leon Rebmann, Sr., of Branford, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patty and Bill DeMeola of Branford, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Maryann Rebmann and brother-in-law, Anthony Berzinskas.
He was born in New Haven September 30, 1943, son of the late Anthony and Cecelia Simalunis Zirles. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a retired roofing and sheet metal mechanic at Yale University, where he worked for 35 years. He achieved a black belt in Aikido and a brown belt in Karate. He loved his beautiful yard and enjoyed landscaping and woodworking, as he had the hands of an artist. He was loved greatly and will be sadly missed.
His funeral will leave the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Branford, Saturday morning at 11:00 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Augustine Church, North Branford, at 11:30. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 4 – 8 PM. Memorial donations may be sent to Pan-CAN, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network
