David E. Barba of Branford passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday March 24, 2015, after a long battle with cancer. He was 67 years old. He is survived by Donald Shanley, his partner of 33 years.
Mr. Barba was born August 11, 1947 in New Haven, son of the late Dominic and Mary Donofrio Barba. He was an antique dealer and a jewelry designer for Tiffany & Co. many years. Besides his partner, he also leaves a brother Dominic Barba of Old Saybrook, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Lou Nuzzo, Philomena Barba, Bella Rose Chrishi and Dolores Migliore.
David attended Branford High School class of 1962, later attending UC Berkeley for art. He was a creative man who saw beauty and possibilities all around him. His keen eye served him well over the years. Dave's vision and his partner Donald's skill resulted in many gorgeous and unique antique restorations.
Dave and Don ran a successful booth together at the Clinton Antique Center for 17 years, where Dave was beloved by the staff, other dealers, and customers. David also had the gift of gab mixed with a wry sense of humor. He was well known for his ability to shock and cajole all around him. He reveled in simple pleasures like an evening with family and friends. He loved good Italian food, especially recipes his mother taught him to make. Gardening was always an important part of his life and nothing made a dish more special than using fresh vegetables from their large backyard garden.
Relatives and friends may call Monday evening from 6 – 8 PM at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford.
