Donald Paul White, beloved son, father, brother and grandfather died on November 5, 2014 at Yale New Haven Hospital with his loving family by his side and in the excellent care of the nurses and doctors of the CICU after a sudden illness. He was 69 years old and taken too soon.
He is survived by his two cherished daughters and son-in-laws, Stephanie and Brian Martinik of Northford, and Tanya and Jonathon Ziegler of Hamden; his four grandsons, who were precious to him; Dylan, Colby and Brady Martinik and Austin Ziegler; his sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Prisco DeLuca of Branford; his brother, George White also of Branford; and his nieces Christie (Matt) Ciancola of North Branford and Kimberly (Felix) Flores of Hamden. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary White and a sister Maryann, all of Branford.
Donald was born on October 3, 1945 in New Haven and raised in Branford. He graduated from Branford High School and attended Quinnipiac University. He was a painter, a manager and most recently, in his retirement, he helped his brother George run his store, Colonial Wine and Spirit. Donald loved cool vintage and classic cars like the 1968 Mustang he once owned. He loved to read historical fiction and completed the crossword every day. He loved the music of The Beatles and John Lennon and Pink Floyd. He was a Yankee and Redskin fan and loved football on Sundays. But, there is nothing he loved more than his daughters who knew this every day of his life.
He was a loving and selfless man who took pleasure in giving, and the happiness of his family. From watching his daughters as children at dance recitals and sporting games, to college graduations and walking them down the aisle; their accomplishments big and small were his pride and joy. This continued with the birth of his grandsons as he cheered them on from their first steps through report cards to football, hockey, baseball and lacrosse games. Grampy was there and the pride shown in his eyes.
He will be missed dearly by all those mentioned here and many other acquaintances, friends and family who appreciated his friendly smile and wry sense of humor.
A memorial service with preceding visitation is scheduled for November 16, 2014 from 1:30p to 3:30p at The W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Donald's life.
