Dorothy L. White, wife of the late Salvatore J. White, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She and her family lived for many years in East Haven before moving to Branford in 1968. She was born in New Britain to the late David and Lillian Turse on July 29, 1930. In her early teens both parents died, and her late aunt and uncle Aurelia and Herbert Litke raised her and her sister. She graduated from New Britain High School and enrolled in Grace New Haven Hospital nursing program. She married Sal in 1950 and started a family. In 1968 she graduated from Eli Whitney Licensed Practical Nurse Program and began her career at Yale New Haven Hospital retiring in 1995. She also worked part time at Branford Hills Health Care Center when her husband became ill in the mid 1980’s until retiring in 2001. Dorothy was a compassionate and loving caretaker always giving of herself to her husband, children, grandchildren, patients and anyone that needed a soft-spoken word or just a hug. She will be remembered for her kindness, caring, love and support to her family.

She will be missed immensely by her surviving daughters Sally (Sal) Diglio of Wallingford, Patricia Devaney of Guilford, Deborah (Don) Bernier of Thomaston, Dorothy Clark of Anaheim, CA and her son David White of Branford; her grandchildren Jeff (Wendy) Diglio of Norwalk, Melanie Rodrigues of East Haven, Rachel (Pat) McGee of Canton, David (Genevieve) Clark of Cape Coral, FL, and Emily White and Mary Grace White, both of Branford. She is also survived by her three cherished great grandchildren Cooper and Kensey Diglio and Evan Clark, a sister Nancy Witkowski of Woodbury and two aunts, Ruth Barnes of Bristol, and Shirley King of Hamden; and cousins Roger Hinkel, Ron Ziembko and Janice Hinkel. Her family extends heartfelt thanks to the wonderful and compassionate care provided by the staff at Branford Hills Health Care Center.

Friends are invited to a funeral service Friday morning at 11:00 in Tabor Lutheran Church, Branford. Burial will follow in Tabor Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
