Died in West Haven August 21, 2007 after a brief illness, Edward J. Zack, Sr., of 130 Alps Rd. Branford.
Survived by his loving wife of 59 years Carol Sennett Zack; son, Edward J. Zack Jr. of Branford, and sisters, Victoria Piasecki and Edwina (Peggy) Killian, both of Branford. He was predeceased by brothers, Alfred Yuzakewich, John Yuzakewich, Joseph Zack, and Peter Zack, and sisters, Agnes Bakutis, and Mary (Mae) Kyder.
Mr. Zack was born in Branford on September 4, 1921, a son of the late Bronius and Mary Kasheta Yuzakewich.
He entered the National Guard in 1939 at the age of 16 and was inducted into active service in the U.S. Army on January 6, 1941. He became a marksman with the M-1 rifle and participated in battles and campaigns in the East Indies, Papua, New Guinea, Bismarck-Archipelago and in the Southern Philippines. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on May 29, 1945 and he was entitled to the Good Conduct Medal, the Presidential Unit Emblem, the American Defense Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 1 Silver Star, the World War II Victory Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, the Honorable WWII Service Lapel Button, and the Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar.
After leaving the service he was a master mason for many years with his brother Joseph and was also an excellent carpenter. He was a member of American Legion Post 83 in Branford and a communicant of St. Mary Church in Branford.

Funeral from the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main St. Branford, Friday morning at 9:30 with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Church at 10:00. Burial, with Military Honors, will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford. Friends may call Thursday from 4 – 7 PM.
