James "Jay" John Moniello entered into eternal rest on July 13, 2017 after a brave fight against cancer. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen Paine Moniello. Jay was born January 12, 1946 in New Haven, son of the late Raffaela "Rae" D'Amato Moniello.
After graduating from Quinnipiac University, Jay started Moniello Associates, an insurance and real estate firm in East Haven, CT. He later merged with his partners to form The Mathog & Moniello Companies, which grew to one of the largest insurance and risk management agencies in the northeast.
After selling his business in 2003, Jay enjoyed traveling and spending time with his friends and family on the golf course at Fox Hopyard in East Haddam and the Country Club at DC Ranch in Scottsdale. But more than anything, he loved to just sit around and talk and laugh with the people he treasured the most. He came from a large, close family, and as a child he cherished Sunday dinners with his beloved grandfather Dominick D'Amato, and his many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was generous with his gift of exceptional business insight. He served on the Board of Directors at Gaylord Hospital for several years, and freely gave of his time to counsel family and friends on business and personal matters.
Like everything he did in life, Jay fought his illness with courage, dignity, and grace. He lived to see his son marry, to serve as best man in his best friend's wedding, and most importantly, to witness the miracle of the birth of his first grandchild.
Besides his wife, Jay is survived by his son, Anthony (Ashley) Moniello of Fairfield and grandson Dominic James Moniello; his daughter Alexis Moniello of New York, NY; his step-daughter, Kristina Apanowitch of Atlanta, GA; brother-in-law, Frank Hall, Sr. of Branford; niece Kimberly Hall of Branford; nephew, Frank Hall, Jr. of Branford; the Paine Family – mother-in-law Mary Anne Paine, sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews; Aunt Mary Ercolano of Hamden; Uncle Dominic D'Amato of Cheshire; and Aunt Lucy Maturo of Canton, GA and many cousins. He is also survived by his beloved puppy, Sasha, born on his birthday in 2015. Jay was predeceased by his "favorite" sister, Josephine (Joanne) Hall and father-in-law Howard Paine Jr., and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
