John Thomas Ambrulevich, 85, formerly of Branford (73 years), died surrounded by family
on January 9, 2017 in Dover, NH at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. He was born March 7, 1931 in Branford, a twin son of the late John and Frances Kachinski Ambrulevich.

As early as John's senior year in high school, he was recognized by faculty and classmates in their 1949 yearbook as "an excellent student who takes pains in everything he does and usually comes out on top." After high school, John volunteered to serve four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He became Yeoman First Class, received a number of service awards, and worked as assistant to the Commander of Fleet Air Wing Three, United States Naval Air Station, Quonset Point, RI.

While in the Navy, John did coursework at the University of Rhode Island. After his Navy service, he earned a degree in Business Administration from Quinnipiac College in Hamden, CT and an MBA in Finance and Investments from George Washington University in Washington, DC. Early in his career, John was an administrator at Yale-New Haven Hospital (Emergency Services). He subsequently spent the majority of his professional life as a financial analyst and consultant, retiring in 2000 from
A. G. Edwards & Sons, Inc.

John will be remembered for his broad, welcoming smile, keen intelligence, and strength of character, always taking the moral high ground. He was willing and able to fight battles of fairness and equality for those whose voices were not heard. A member of the Branford Representative Town Meeting and the Branford Tennis Club, he was also an instructor for the Branford Tennis Clinic and program chairman of the Civitan Club of New Haven. For recreation, he enjoyed tennis, ice skating, skiing, sailing, hiking, and fishing.

John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dr. Almeda King Ambrulevich, and his beloved Maine
Coon cat, Tiffany (Dover, NH); his niece Marian Martone in Branford; his twin brother Joe's wife,
Brenda Ambrulevich, and their two children, Jennifer and Michael, in Walnut Creek, CA; and his nephew Alfred A. Tisko, Jr.'s wife, Cathy Tisko, and their three children, Joanna, Alfred III, and
Kara of Branford. He also leaves his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Eleanor King, in Rockport, MA, and their five children and ten grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his twin brother, Joseph "Joe" Ambrulevich; his sister Josephine "Josie" and her husband, Alfred A. Tisko, Sr., and their son, Alfred A. Tisko, Jr.; his sister Ann and her husband, Joseph A. Meshako, Sr.; and his sister Marian and her husband, Vincent "Jim" Martone.
