Joseph "Buddy" Zurkus, 74, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Guilford on Tuesday April 25th. He is survived by his wife Judith Fiero Zurkus of Guilford, his daughter Jennifer Zurkus and husband Chris Haverly of Clifton, VA, his son Joseph Zurkus and wife Kacy of Lowell, MA, and his daughter Jeanine Bisesti and husband Nicholas of Framingham, MA. He was the adored grandfather of Elena, Devin, and Grant Haverly, Lillian and Fiona Zurkus, and Siena Bisesti. Buddy was the son of Eleanor Zurkus of Branford and the late Joseph Zurkus. He is also survived by his sister Carol Kaminsky of Branford and nieces Kristen Czaplicki and Karen Hannon.
Buddy grew up in Branford and was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving as a sergeant during the Vietnam War. He was a locksmith for many years with businesses in Branford and East Haven. Buddy was a longtime active member of the Stony Creek Fife & Drum Corps and will be especially remembered for his renowned "Stony Creek clam chowder."
He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed cooking for his family. Buddy loved the many dogs he owned throughout his life- including his beloved Jake and Cote.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, April 30th from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St. Branford. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 1st at 12:30pm at W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home.
