Julia M. “Judy” Hayes of Branford, died Sunday December 3, 2017 at the Village at Mariner’s Point in East Haven. She was the wife of the late Edward (Ned) J. Hayes, Sr. Judy was born October 15, 1930 in Old Saybrook, daughter of the late Eugene and Christine Bowes McGuire. She was a graduate of Quinnipiac College. Judy worked for the Southern New England Telephone Company in Old Saybrook and New Haven; she also worked as a medical secretary for Drs. Blanchard, Nickou, and Rosenthal. She also worked at Nyman’s Jewelers in Old Saybrook. Judy was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Branford where she belonged to the Ladies Guild, the Altar Society and the Bereavement Group. She loved to travel, and enjoyed jewelry making and other crafts.
She is survived by her sons, Edward (Ned) J. Hayes, Jr. (Denni) of San Jose, CA, Timothy E. Hayes (Vicki) of North Yarmouth, ME, James R. Hayes (Carol) of Branford, and Eugene C. Hayes (Li) of Branford; her grandchildren, EJ (Cara) Hayes, James (Meg) Hayes, Ben Hayes, Stephen Hayes, Ciara Hayes, Meaghan Hayes, Aidan Hayes, Dorian Hayes, and Ronan Hayes; her sister, Peg (Bob) Little and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Jane Gibson and her brother, Eugene Joseph McGuire.
Her funeral will leave the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, Thursday morning at 9:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Church at 10:00. Burial will be private. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 4:00 - 8:00 PM.
