Kenneth A. “Ken” Krause, of Venice, FL and Branford, died peacefully Tuesday night February 27, 2018 at the Venice Tidewell Hospice House in Venice, FL, surrounded by family members. He was the beloved husband of Margaret “Peggy” E. Krause of 58 years.
Ken was born June 3, 1934 in Passaic, NJ, son of the late Alfred and Alice Krause. After graduating from Pope Pius High School in NJ where he played baseball, he continued his passion playing baseball on a professional farm team, then enlisted in the U. S. Army from 1954-56, then finished his education at Seton Hall University, graduating in 1958. In 1957 he met the love of his life, Peggy, at Stearns Brothers Department Store, and from the first time they laid eyes on each other, they never turned back, marrying in May 1960.
Ken went to work for Safeco Insurance Company in the early 1960’s as a Marketing Representative. In 1967, he joined the Harry N. Anderson Insurance Agency in Branford, and when Harry retired in 1975, Ken bought the agency now known as the Anderson-Krause Insurance Agency and worked up to the day he passed. Ken loved the game of baseball and brought his passion and knowledge to the youth of Branford by coaching in the Branford Buddy League and then the Branford Pony League for many years.
Ken continued to volunteer his time while building the business and raising a family. He joined the Branford Lions Club in 1968 and has been a member ever since. In 1974-75 he served as the President of the Lions Club and was responsible for bringing the first Branford Beer Festival to town. In business, Ken volunteered his time with the Professional Insurance Agents Association, chairing many committees and serving as President from 1992-1993.
Ken was a member of the Pine Orchard Yacht & Country Club since the early 70’s where he loved playing golf and tennis and going to dinner and attending events with his long-time friends.
Besides his wife, Ken is survived by his children, Michael A. Krause (Kathie Iannucci) of Branford, and Susan K. (Robert) Smith of Clinton; his grandchildren, Ashley A. Krause (Aaron Monaco), Morgan M. Krause, Travis M. Krause (Amanda Moore), and Kyle and Kelly Smith, and his former daughter-in-law, Kim A. Krause.
Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday Morning at 10:00 in St. Therese Church, Branford. Entombment, in St. Agnes Mausoleum, will be at a later date. THERE ARE NO CALLING HOURS.
