Obituary

Kristine Elizabeth (Dohm) Arpaia, 56, of Branford, died peacefully while surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous 14 year battle with cancer, on Friday, September 11, 2009.

She was born March 1, 1953 in Hartford, daughter of the late Donald K. and Bernadette (Drain) Dohm. Kristine was raised in Simsbury, where she attended local schools. A graduate of Southern Connecticut State College, she taught Special Education in the Simsbury Public Schools before discovering her passion for dance. She became a ballroom dance instructor at Arthur Murray Dance Studio in New Haven, participating in competitions throughout the area. After marrying and starting a family, Kris worked as a payroll supervisor for Blakeslee Arpaia Chapman Construction and continued to do so until her recent illness. Her most rewarding role was that of a mother to her beloved children, who were a source of great pride and joy. She traveled extensively, enjoying family vacations from Cape Cod to the Caribbean. She was an avid reader and looked forward to her Book Club nights with friends.

Kristine is survived by Ron, her loving husband of 26 years, and her precious children, Brett of Brighton, MA and Kimberly of Branford. She will be greatly missed by her brother and six sisters and their spouses: Peter and Helen Dohm, Kathy and Michael Brody, Barbara and Scott Wood, Mary Dohm, Bernadette and David Ossorio, Elizabeth and Rick Keevill, and Susan and David Caldeira. Kris is also survived by her mother-in-law, Mary Arpaia, and brothers-in-law and their spouses: Larry Arpaia, Bill and Janice Arpaia, Chris and Wendy Arpaia, Carl Arpaia and an extended family that includes aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and numerous cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her father-in-law, Vincent Arpaia.

The family would like to thank Dr. Arthur Levy and his staff for their care and support throughout her illness. Kristine's strong will to live and courageous spirit inspired all who knew her. She will be forever missed.

A memorial service in celebration of Kristine's life will be held on Saturday, September 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Branford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a trust fund in Kristine's honor which will be implemented through the First Congregational Church of Branford (203-488-7201).
