Marie Justine Rook Anderson died November 24, 2009.
My mother, Marie Justine Rook Anderson was born in West Haven, CT to Laura Hoffman and Otto Rook on December 3, 1919. She was predeceased by her husband, Herman "Pinky" Anderson and her brother, Otto "Bud" Rook. She is survived by me, Karen Anderson of Guilford, CT; her niece, Lynn Rook of North Haven, CT; her nephew, Paul Rook of Northford, CT and extended family.
During her entire life, Marie was ahead of the social curve. A progressive thinker, she was recycling plastics, metals, glass, and newspapers well before that was ever pronounced "fashionable". My mom thought that freight should be transported by rail... a new old idea.
Mom loved to dance, and in fact tortured my father at every available opportunity. Mostly though, she loved animals, both domestic and wild, and she came to their aid directly and financially whenever she could.
Marie, who would have turned 90 on Dec 3, 2009, had seen her fair share of political, social, and economic turmoil in her lifetime and had little patience for intolerance. Having been a Republican voter for most of her life, she thought that electing a mixed-race President was a great thing for this country and world.
Marie was an active parishioner of First Lutheran Church in West Haven, CT. She also enjoyed a good golf game with my father and their friends.
Thank you to all of the great staff of Fowler Nursing Center, CT Hospice, and all of my wonderful friends who spent their time with us.
A small memorial service will be held for Marie at W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main St, Branford, Thursday, Dec 3, which would have been her 90th birthday. Visiting hours are 5:30-7:30 with a service at 6pm.
