In New Haven June 2, 2011, after being stricken with an apparent heart attack, Marilyn Beauton Whelan, wife of the late William R. Whelan of Branford. Mrs. Whelan was born in New Haven February 7, 1932, daughter of the late Gerald and Anne Stanis Beauton. She was a 1953 graduate of the Hospital of St. Raphael School of Nursing, and worked as a Registered Nurse in the hospital and, for many years, as a private duty nurse. After retiring, she volunteered at the Hospital of St. Raphael and Connecticut Hospice. She also volunteered at St. Mary Church in Branford with their Friendly Visitor program and helped at their blood pressure screenings. She was a daily communicant of St. Mary Church in Branford. She also was a member of the New Haveners Club.
She is survived by her five children, William R. Whelan, Jr. of San Francisco, Susan (Charles) Temple of Naugatuck, Mark (Monica) Whelan of Old Lyme, Douglas (Lisa) Whelan of Webster, NY, and Monica (David) Dornfeld of Branford; her six grandchildren, Michelle and Patrick Whelan, Douglas, Jr. and Kelsey Whelan and Nathaniel and John Dornfeld; her brothers, Gerald Beauton of Branford and Robert Beauton of Killingworth, and her sister Lorraine Mann Di Bella. She was predeceased by a brother Thomas Beauton.
Relatives and friends may call Monday evening from 4 – 8 PM, and are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday morning at 9:30 at St. Mary Church. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, 06405.
