Mark Gery of Durham, formerly of Branford, died peacefully after a long illness at Ct Hospice in Branford on Sunday February 18, 2018. He was survived by his close friend Laura Hummel and her daughter Ava of Southbury. He was the son of Jean Mowers of Clinton and the late Richard Gery. He was the brother of Jennifer Cappello of Maine. He is also survived by his aunt and uncle, Lynn and Ted Rand of Doylestown, PA, as well as one niece and two nephews. Mark was born in New Haven on October 16, 1968. He grew up in Branford and was a graduate of Branford High School. He worked for the State of CT D.O.T. before becoming a police officer. He was a long time police officer for the town of Hamden; he was also an officer for the Woodbridge, North Branford, and Cromwell police departments. He was a proud member of the K9 unit when he was with the Hamden Police Department, serving as a K9 decoy. Mark, known as “Yogi” to his many friends, never lost his sense of humor or strong attitude in spite of the serious illnesses that he suffered in recent years. He will be greatly missed by many.
