In New Haven June 6, 2001, Mary Lou McNeil Welch, wife of the late Donald Welch of 17 Montgomery Parkway, Branford.

Mother and mother-in-law of Ginger and Sam Dendas of Branford, Paul and Linda Karoff of Hingham, MA, Sue and Bob Fiskio and Peggy Welch of Branford. Sister of James McNeil of Stuart, FL and Peggy Boyer of Lincoln, MA. Also survived by 9 grandchildren.

She was born in New Haven June 12, 1933 daughter of the late Virgil J. and Virginia Marshall McNeil. She was a graduate of the Walnut Hill School, and she taught for 25 years at the Mandana Armstrong Nursery School, she also owned the Virginia McNeil Real Estate Co. and was the bookkeeper for the Wine and Spirit Company in Branford. She was a very active member of the First Congregational Church in Branford, serving on numerous committees, including serving as a volunteer worker for the Habitat for Humanity in Almost Heaven, West Virginia in 1999, this years Congregational Church trip to West Virginia is being dedicated to her- The Mary Lou Welch Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build- and will take place June 24 - July 1, when they will build an entire house and donate it to a needy family. She was also a volunteer for Camp Totoket, an interfaith camp for children with AIDS, and she loved to work in her garden and was a mother to

A Memorial Service will be held Monday at 11 AM in the First Congregational Church of Branford. Friends may call Sunday from 4 - 8 PM at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Branford. Memorial donations may be sent to the Donald and Mary Lou Welch Scholarship Fund c/o First Congregational Church, 1009 Main St., Branford 06405, or the Father McGivney Cancer Center, 1450 Chapel St., New Haven, 06511, or the Visiting Nurses Association 678 Main St., Branford 06405.
