Michael Bolgar, 85 of Stratford CT passed away peacefully at home on March 8th, 2017.
Michael leaves behind his beloved wife Hedy (Arato) Bolgar, Hedy's brother Estevao and sister Katy. Also his three children, Julie Bolgar (predeceased 2012) of Branford CT, Matthew Bolgar and his wife Suzanne of New Canaan CT, Amy Harvey and her husband Dan from Middletown CT, and his two Grandchildren, Christina Harvey and Timothy Harvey of Middletown, CT. He had a half-brother, George Bolgar. He also leaves behind his cousins Nora Weinreich and her husband Ted from Miami, FL, along with Peter Wells and his wife Joan.
Born in Vienna, Austria on May 14th, 1931 to the late Alice and Emerich Bolgar. Michael was a Holocaust survivor and entered the United States through Ellis Island in 1946. He graduated from Bronx High School of Science in 1950, and earned a BS in Chemistry from Queens College in New York in 1954. He earned his MS Degree in Organic Chemistry from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1958. He went on to attend Penn State University from 1958-1961, working toward his PhD. He married his first wife, Alice Bolgar on July 6, 1956, and was married for 42 years until Alice passed in 1998.
Michael was a Synthetic Chemist and was employed by various companies across the United States until 1986 when he and his first wife Alice founded AccuStandard Inc., a Global Chemical Reference Standard Supplier located in New Haven, CT which has grown to over 70 employees. Michael was known for his generosity and for putting others first. He enjoyed going to plays, drama clubs, and performed in many community plays including Arsenic & Old Lace in Stony Creek. He was a Bridge Life Master, avid Yankees fan, enjoyed traveling, movies and all Art - especially paintings with an Alchemy theme.

Visitation will be on Saturday March 11th 11:00am-1:00pm, W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford CT 06405 followed by a graveside burial service at Branford Center Cemetery on Montowese St in Branford CT. A reception will be held after the burial at AccuStandard, Inc. 125 Market St in New Haven CT.
