Attorney Richard P. Sperandeo of New Haven and Colorado Springs, CO, died Thursday November 23, 2017 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford. He was the husband of Janice Gilbride Sperandeo for 61 years.
Attorney Sperandeo was born in New Haven March 6, 1927, son of the late Louis and Theresa Sperandeo. He attended the U. S. Merchant Marine Academy, the University of Connecticut and the UConn Law School. He was admitted to the Connecticut Bar in 1954. He served as a public defender for New Haven County from 1961-65. He was Chief Assistant State’s Attorney, New Haven County from 1965-82. He was Secretary of the Grievance Committee for New Haven County from 1967-74, a member of the Grievance Committee U. S. District Court, District of Connecticut 1984-88, and a member of the Statewide Grievance Committee, Connecticut, 1990. He was appointed as a State of Connecticut Trial Referee in 1984. He was a member of the New Haven County and Connecticut Bar Associations, the Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association, and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Jill Sperandeo (Bryan Burke) of San Diego, CA and Lynda (Thomas) Henderson of Colorado Springs; his grandchildren, Attorney Kristine Henderson of Monterrey, CA, Alexis Henderson of Denver, CO, Rachel Henderson of San Diego and William Richard Wirtz of Portland, OR. He is also survived by his sister, Gloria Donovan of New Haven, and his nephews John and Richard Donovan, and his many friends in Colorado Springs. He was predeceased by his brother Ralph Sperandeo.
Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bernadette Church, New Haven, Wednesday morning at 10:00. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford. THERE WILL BE NO CALLING HOURS.
