In New Haven February 23, 2010, Roy G. Aspland, beloved husband of Yolanda Listro Aspland of 32 Flat Rock Rd., Branford.
Father of Steven R. Aspland of Bristol, RI, George H. Aspland of Branford, and Kathleen Aspland (Kenneth) Skomro of Middletown. Grandfather of Michael and Christopher Skomro. Brother of Elsie Del Grego of Sun City Center, FL. He was predeceased by a brother Joseph Aspland and a sister Olive Kennedy. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was born in Manchester, England, June 9, 1923, son of the late George H. and Eva Hughes Aspland. He served in the U. S. Merchant Marines in WWII. After his discharge he began a construction company, and was recalled into the U. S. Army Reserves, serving with the 801st Air Force Corps of Engineers in Goose Bay, Labrador. During the Korean War he served with the 18th Combat Engineers at Kassel, Germany, until he was discharged in 1954. He became an electrician for M.B. Foster Electric and became a member of Local 90, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, working as an electrician until retiring in 1987.
He moved to Branford in 1981 and joined Trinity Episcopal Church in Branford. He was a member of the Pattaconk Yacht Club in Chester, CT.
Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service Saturday morning at 11 AM in Trinity Episcopal Church, on the green, Branford. There are no calling hours.
