Shirley Davidson of Madison died peacefully on Saturday, March 16th. By her side was her beloved William H. Davidson to whom she was married for 64 wonderful years. Shirley and Bill’s marriage was one that was inspiring to all who knew them as the picture of love and support. A day did not go by that Shirley did not take deep gratitude for her husband.

Born on January 10th, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois, Shirley was the daughter of the late John W. Robinson born in London, England and the late Alma Baldwin Robinson who was born in Flat Rock, Missouri. Shirley also had two brothers, Donald (Don) and John (Jack) who predeceased her.

Shirley attended the University of Illinois where she earned a BFA in Painting. She then received a full scholarship to Cranbrook Academy of Art, one of the finest art schools in the country located in Birmingham, Michigan where she received a MFA in Painting and graduated summa cum laude. Shirley was an extraordinarily talented artist whose artwork has been shown in many fine galleries and purchased for private collection including the Pfizer Chemical Corporation. Her work is bold and vibrant and brings tremendous energy to every space it occupies. Shirley’s work has received so much recognition that her awards are too numerous to mention!

Shirley and Bill raised their boys in Westchester, NY before moving to Madison, CT in 1992. During her happy times in Madison, Shirley was a member of the Madison Art Society, the Guilford Art Society, the First Congregational Church and the Madison Winter Club.

In addition to being survived by Bill, Shirley is also survived by her dear sons, Robert W. Davidson and his wife Elisabeth of Washington, NJ and John W. Davidson and his wife, Thea of North Granby, CT. Additionally, Shirley has four accomplished granddaughters whom she adored and was immensely proud of- Cassidy, McKenzie, Maegan and Carey Davidson.

A memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church of Madison on Saturday, March 30th at 11:00 am. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of Shirley.
