Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Theresa Murphy Ahern of 173 Alps Rd., Branford. She passed in peace on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford.

Born in New Haven August 1, 1918, she was the daughter of the late John Francis and Ellen Darney Murphy and she was the beloved and devoted wife of the late Vincent J. ''Duke'' Ahern.

She will be forever lovingly remembered by her son, Vincent J. (Judith) Ahern, Jr. of Richmond, VA, and her daughters, Mary Pat (Charles) Hildebrandt of Upland, CA, Judith (Peter) Wall of Milford, Joanne (David) Marquis and Terry Ahern of Branford. Survived by seven grandchildren, Bonnie (Kent) Gravely and Morgan (Joseph) Wharff of Richmond, VA, Matthew Hildebrandt of Long Beach, CA, Joseph (Megan) Ahern of New York City, Caitlin Ahern of Leavenworth, Washington, and James Marquis and John Marquis of Branford, she is survived by four great-grandchildren, Jack Ahern Wharff, Luke Andrew Wharff, and Eden Elizabeth and Eliza Jane Gravely of Richmond. Pre-deceased by 5 brothers, John Francis, John Thomas, Dennis, Stephen and Father Terrence Murphy and one sister, Alice Murphy, she is survived by two sisters, Rita Murphy Kelly of Hamden, and Sister Marion Joseph Murphy of West Hartford.

She attended St. Francis Parish School in Fair Haven where she was a proud member of the St. Francis Bugle Corps and she was a graduate of Hillhouse High School.

As a young woman, she was employed by SNET and, after raising her family, she was employed by the Wire Association of Guilford. Extremely creative, she was a gifted and talented seamstress and avid knitter who, while a resident of Gardenside, fashioned handmade blankets and garments for newborns suffering from AIDS. We will miss her gentle spirit and giving nature and her loving presence will remain with us always.
