Obituary

Zigmund John Yanick, AKA Jack to his dearest friends, born to Zigmund john Yanick and Helen Malinchoc on January 11, 1942 in Coledale, PA, passed away unexpectedly albeit peacefully at home in Branford, on August 25, 2013.

John spent his youth in Nesquehoning, PA. Following high school, he joined the United States Air Force, where he served his country for a total of six years. Upon his honorable discharge as a Sergeant, John went to work in the cable industry for over forty years. He created and managed his own successful cable business for many years and traveled the country over.

In addition to these accomplishments, John was a jack-of-all-trades, as those who knew him, knew "he did it all." He knew something about everything and was a self-grown history buff. John will also be remembered for his dry and clever humor and inimitable grin.

John was an antique car enthusiast. John collected and restored many antique classic cars faithfully throughout the years, including a vintage Packard Roadster, Cadillac V-16, Studebaker, Lincoln and Corvette. Year after year John attended the AACA Eastern Division National Fall Meet in Hershey, PA.

In retirement John grew his green thumb and was an avid gardener. During the warmer months, he could be found growing, harvesting, and canning vegetables out of his own garden. Pickles were his specialty and he was hard-pressed to part with them. He was also talented in the kitchen and at the grill, known for his famous Mac 'n' Cheese and Greek Burgers.

As a sports fan, John was a tireless supporter of the NY Yankees and the Pittsburgh Steelers. In terms of music, John could be found listening to the likes of classic country musicians.

Paramount to all else, John was the ultimate family man and devoted father to his children (which extended to family and friends as well), whose lives he influenced with his generosity, patience, wit, and advice. John enjoyed many family trips to favorite destinations including St. Maarten, Hershey, PA, and Colorado and New England.

John is survived by his wife, Donna Bonci Yanick; daughter Sheila Yanick Chrissanthis (Daniel Chrissanthis) of Derry, NH, son Daniel Crescenzo of Niwot, CO; daughter Kelly Yanick (Joseph Lucarelli) of East Haven; son Brendan Yanick of Branford; granddaughter Alexis Chrissanthis of Derry; brother Eugene Yanick (Martha Jean Yanick) of Bethlehem, PA; and brother Dennis Yanick of Nesquehoning, PA.

Relatives and friends may call Thursday from 4 – 8 PM at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford. Funeral services will be Friday morning at 11:00 in the Church of Christ, 192 Thimble Island Road, Stony Creek. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery.
