Roberta (Naumann) Bishop, 97, of Branford passed away peacefully at her home on January 13, 2018 after a long struggle with dementia. Born in Branford, August 5, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Vernie (Caddy) Baldwin. Roberta grew up in Branford, graduated valedictorian from Branford High School in 1938, and from New Haven State Teachers College (now Southern Connecticut State University) in 1942. She was pre-deceased by her first husband, Frederick Naumann in 1973, and her second husband, Gordon Bishop in 2010. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Nancy (Ronald) Boyles of Branford, and her son Dana (Terrell) Naumann also of Branford. She leaves four grandchildren, Ryan and Justin Naumann, Whitney (Michael) Vitale, and Caitlin Boyles, a great granddaughter, Tessa Vitale, a step-son Richard (Christine) Bishop and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Roberta was a teacher for many years, most of them at Montowese School in North Haven. She was a former member of the Church of the Redeemer, New Haven, and a current member of First Congregational Church of Branford. She was a past member of the High Lane Club, and was active in many community organizations. She loved Cape Cod, music, the hundreds of children she had the privilege to teach over the years, her wonderful friends, and most of all, her family. The family wishes to thank Grace Quist, caregiver extraordinaire, for her dedication and compassion over the past seven years.
